Challenge to Life

The election last week has placed a serious challenge in front of the pro life movement. Here in Michigan Proposition 2 was passed which opens the door to embryonic stem cell and the destruction of human life to benefit others. Horrible is not an understatement. And with Barak Obama being elected President we now have the most pro death anti life president ever. Obama 4 times voted against Born Alive legislation in Illinois and supports abortion in any and all phases and forms. Obama stated his support is unconditional because "I don't want my girls punished for a mistake". What a view of life, something which no one can create, which by definition should mean incredibly valuable, but not for this man, this party, this time. It would be very easy to be depressed about our ability to stop or slow the abortion holocaust with Obama becoming president but we must fight this feeling. Remember we are called to serve, not necessarily to win, but to serve and to speak the Truth in all places in all times, sometimes when necessary using words. There is a great scene in The Lord of The Rings where Samwise bucks up Frodo saying “I know. It's all wrong. By rights we shouldn't even be here. But we are. It's like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger, they were. And sometimes you didn't want to know the end. Because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened? But in the end, it's only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you. That meant something, even if you were too small to understand why. But I think, Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know now. Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back, only they didn't. They kept going. Because they were holding on to something... . That there's some good in this world, Mr. Frodo... and it's worth fighting for." Amen.
