Church officials who were present when Cardinal John Henry Newman’s body was exhumed Thursday were surprised to find his grave almost completely empty when it was opened. All that remained were a brass plate and handles from Newman’s coffin, along with a few red tassels from his cardinal’s hat. Wow, imagine that. Completely empty save a brass plate with his name “in the world” and a few tassels from his galero signifying his office in God’s church.
“By the sweat of your face shall you get bread to eat, Until you return to the ground, from which you were taken; For you are dirt, and to dirt you shall return." Genesis 3:19
