I heard an announcement that Wal*Mart is planning on opening their stores at 5am on Black Friday and increasing security and crowd control after last years fiasco where temporary employees where trampled at some locations.
This is pathetic. A people so concerned with the next deal, the savings of another 10or 20% they would actually turn out to line up in predawn hours to shop. The God of Materialism can never be satisfied! Something is being sold somewhere, purchased by someone, snatching a sale item from your family, depriving your wallet of a potential savings. What a herd mentality, wealth was supposed to liberate us from starvation, depravation, poor health and the overwhelming pursuit of the basic necessities to survive. We have traded the requirement of leaving the house to farm or shoot dinner for saving 10% on a new DVD release. If I could I would close everything except grocery stores, gas stations and hospitals on Sunday – bring back the Blue Laws and figure out what it means to be human.
