The governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin has been nominated as the Republican Vice Presidential candidate and one would think the world is upside down and crosswise to itself. Here is a woman who was on the sidelines politically, got involved in local politics and rode the reformers horse into the governor's office in part by railing against the big oil company, BP, who employs her husband part time when he isn't fishing for a living, has daughter who is pregnant before being married and has herself given birth in office to a Down Syndrome baby and returned to work 3 days later, no Family Leave for her. Doesn't this sound like a candidate that would be embraced by the party of the little guy, ostensibly the Democratic Party and yet she isn't a Democrat she is a Republican and most Democrats and liberals are all a twitter spewing incredibly mean and contemptuous invective in the Governor's direction, except one, Bill Clinton, who "gets why she is hot"!!! This is too rich for words. Governor Palin, like Clarence Thomas and Condoleeza Rice and countless others do not fit the liberal world view, they simply do not know what to do with her and in their hearts they feel threatened by her. She has put light to the lie that liberals are pro choice. Both she and her daughter have made a choice for life and there is no support for them from the left. More than a few have condemned her choice including Dr. Andre Lalonde, executive vice president of the Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists in Ottawa, worries that Palin's now renowned decision may cause abortions in Canada to decline as other women there and elsewhere opt to follow suit. Granted, the good doctor is Canadien but I would think that her life would be the kind of thing that everyone on the left would celebrate and yet it seems that only the conservatives have the love. I guess this gun toting, moose hunting, life loving gal is too far outside the box for the Democrats.
