Pheromone Findings

Two recent studies point to the importance of odor in human interactions. The first study indicates that women who are fertile exude an order that men are able to detect and obviously enough find rather attractive. The second study indicates that women who use the Pill may find that it disrupts their ability to judge the genetic compatibility of men by means of their smell. Researchers were able to evaluate that the use of the Pill alters what male odor they find attractive and of more importance they were able to confirm that the men the Pill users chose were of a genetic make up which may present problems with fertility, increased miscarriage risk and immune system problems in the resulting offspring. Experts believe that women are naturally attracted to men with immune system genes different to their own because of their smell. Use of the Pill interferes with major histocompatibility complex (MHC), which governs the immune system and which several previous studies have suggested "directs" women to prefer the smell of men who are genetically different from them. This is fascinating stuff as it brings to mind countless examples of people whose odor is strong, offensive, it really does prejudge one away from that individual. And with 50% of Americans contracepting and the Pill the largest subset within that group what role might this play in the number of cases of autism, peanut allagies, ADD, ADHD and any manner of health problems and concerns which were nonexistent a few decades ago. On a lighter note can you imagine what success the first perfume company to extract the fertility "odor" will experience?
