We are a Judeo-Christian Nation

At a press conference in Turkey, Sunday April 5th, President Obama casually rebuked the old chestnut that the United States is a Judeo-Christian nation. "One of the great strengths of the United States," the President said, "is ... we have a very large Christian population -- we do not consider ourselves a Christian nation or a Jewish nation or a Muslim nation. We consider ourselves a nation of citizens who are bound by ideals and a set of values."

This is obviously wishful thinking on the President's part and perhaps even a long term goal for him and his fellow travelers but one must wonder to whom he is addressing these comments. It is obvious to anyone whose has read our founding documents, the Federalist Papers, any correspondence from or between our Founding Fathers that this country is a Judeo-Christian nation in concept and design. It is great because of our Judeo-Christian heritage. Only someone ignorant of history would accept the President's statement to the contrary so why put it forth? So why imply that we are not bound by Judeo-Christian ideals and values? And does it really matter why he said it? He either believes this to be true or is embarrassed by our country and its heritage. Either way he appears weak and small.
