Wise Blood

Our book club met last night to discuss our latest read, Flannery O'Connor's "Wise Blood". This book is nothing if not surreal, bizzare, and ultimately full of Catholic symbolism and soaked in redemption. It is not possible to summarize, simply and coherently, a story which includes an Army veteran starting The Church of Jesus, without Jesus, a mummy, a rat colored car, a gorilla, a blind preacher and his bastard daughter, a prostitute, competition from a competing church and preacher without completely spoiling the plot! Just pick up a copy, put up your feet and enjoy the ride with Hazel Motes. This is a fine introduction to O'Connor.
