Men, Bikinis and Life

Research presented by Susan Fiske, professor of psychology at Princeton University shows that in men, the brain area associated with handling tools and the intention to perform actions lights up when viewing images of women in bikinis. She, of course, falls back on the dogma of evolution in believing this to be a byproduct of men’s incentive to seek fertile women as a means of spreading their genes. Yawn. So what exactly is the relationship between fertility and bikinis? There is a relationship between women and “tools and the intention to perform action” as the study indicates but the REAL question is “why did God make us that way?” Right? We were made by God to love, serve and know him, but why, when He created us, did God design us so that what was observed in the study would be apparent? I think we miss the point when we think of tools merely as objects or possessions. In fact, historically, tools have meant something radically different, they have meant in a very real fashion, life itself. A man would take his tools, his saw, axe, plane, drill, etc and hew out of the wild, shelter, food and would create wealth by building and crafting whatever was needed. A “real” man, the kind who would live long enough “to pass on his genes” would subject the wilderness to his will and would create what was needed for shelter, food, etc., for his FAMILY. Women, and ultimately his wife, would occupy the same niche in his brain with those things required for life, survival and success in the world. This is not an accident. God has made man and woman, together, as a family, as the PREFERRED means for successful living in the world. I put myself thru college working as a union carpenter on the Belle River and Greenwood DTE power plants, bridges, hospitals, schools and other large commercial projects and the carpenters I worked with looked at their tools with a rather profound respect because they understand these things are the means by which they support themselves and their families.
