Abstinence ?

The Farmington (MI) Public School System has an official policy promoting abstinence in the school district. And yet the school system finds itself in a bit of a bind because its sex education advisory committee is considering sex education class materials which include Condom Line Up which which will show students how to properly put on a condom using a model penis, and a board game called Sex and Consequences. Other proposed activities include true-or-false quizzes for seventh-graders. The curriculum will remain the same. Whew what a relief! I would hate to think something might change! No let us keep doing the same old thing and continue sending our kids conflicting messages. One can only hope that the health class doesn't take to showing kids how to separate seeds and stems from marijuana prior to rolling joints, testing whether hand rolling is better than using a machine, maybe include some examples of how to prepare and use crack and heroin. Of course the class is optional and kids can opt out "without penalty". Why doesn't anyone consider that maybe the proper option would be to opt "in" should you want to pursue information that is diametrically opposed to the stated policy of promoting abstinence. We have such an abundance of material clearly showing premarital sex to be detrimental to the physical and emotional well being of children it makes me wonder if these activist's goals are really simply the utter destruction of any and all standards. Maybe they are so afraid of being labelled judgemental or old fashioned they simply race to the fore of any attempt to "free" us from perceived constraints. As if railroad tracks hold back trains.
