Make Love Not Babies

The AP published an article this week describing a workshop for veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan designed to help them reconnect with their spouses. A photo shows one man wearing a tee shirt bearing the message “ Make Love Not Babies”. How sad. Sad because the message is rooted in the Make Love Not War feel good mindset of the sixties. Sad because “no greater love hath a man than to lay down his life for another”. Sad because the sacrifices parents and soldiers make are rooted in service and love. Sad because one whose vocation is service sees a baby not as a gift but rather as a burden. Sad because we have another couple who look at fertility as a medical condition which requires outside intervention. Sad because the effort to promote healing is hampered greatly by the message that love's fruit is undesirable.
